Thanks to rom-coms, there’s quite the conspiracy: being single means being lonely. No more rom-coms. Bring on the action sci-fi movies.

In this modern age, being single is rather awesome: singles are great for the economy, they're interesting and fun, have healthy social lives, enjoy more bed space and get loads of time to themselves. Most significantly, singles are changing the world: A social movement across the last half-century is the fact that people live alone – great for real estate. And with more time under their belts and less responsibilities, singles achieve great things in their careers. Finally, they have a better sense of self.

Sure there are a few downsides like trying to do up the zipper on the back of your dress – but being single doesn't define who you are as a person. Being single describes a person who is strong enough to live and enjoy life without depending on a significant other. Director of introductions agency Ideal Introduction's Linda Prescott has some great tips on how to survive Valentine's Day - which you can read all about right here

But on International Single's Awareness Day, MyCityLife looks at the Top 5 Ways of celebrating being Single In The City.

Great company. Even greater friends. The best of times. Who needs an affair when you have a serious bromance or your lady loves?

Just around the corner at Alfredo's Pizzeria, their heart shaped pizza looks pretty good - and you may as well commemorate the day in some form or another. Because you can. Maybe on your own. Better with friends. Roses are red, violets are blue, Alfredo's pizza costs less than dinner for two.

LOVE MUSIC

Go back to what really matters to the heart and soul: music.

For the best in live sounds in Brisbane, Sonny’s House of Blues in The City or Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall on Petrie Terrace will always guarantee the sweetest bands: free entry and a premium lineup of top shelf spirits. It’s on like a Fender Rhodes.

Black Bear Lodge in The Valley presents ethereal layers of spacious, soul-drenched indie-pop with BANFF on Valentine’s Day Eve and Sydney electronic duo Left on the Saturday.

From the Beer Garden at The Wickham Hotel in The Valley comes underground hero of tech house Danny Howells for an epic open-air party. Expect banging beats and electronic treats.

Alternatively, gather your tribe and hookup – don’t be the lone wolf on this journey. Create a meaningful space to gather, celebrate life, educate, connect, heal and inspire with the 10th anniversary of Earth Frequency 2015 at Ivory’s Rock in Peak Crossing. Be one with world fusion electronica Beats Antique, alongside DUB FX, Desert Dwellers, Perfect Stranger and a manifold of doof virtuosos.
