Barbara is the newest lady on Fortitude Valley’s Warner Street bringing with her a love of vinyl, beer and fried chicken.

The creative minds behind this bar are the five-person team known as The Calypso Boys in West End. After hosting a series of pop-up restaurants around Brisbane, brothers Michael and Matthew ThompsonJaxon KingJames Gunston, and Mitch Reyes set their sights on their new girl, Barbara.

As a refreshing and aesthetically pleasing bar, the venue is filled with custom handmade wood fixtures, tables, stools and benches. Designed by the owners, the entire bar including the light fixtures and DJ booth were locally made in Brisbane. The Bespoke sound system installed, pairs perfectly with the beautiful panorama of music variety to please every patrons needs. With a personal tagline she will take care of you”, the minimalist design invites you to spend your night with her without waking up with regret in the morning.

Partnering with local brewer Lee McAlister-Smiley, Barbara’s own signature beer Babs is available on tap alongside a rotating range of craft beers. For those who like to mix things up with a cocktail or two, Barbara also offers an impressive cocktail list featuring the classics while also serving up cocktail newbies like the Pompton (White rum, vanilla & citrus liqueur and pomegranate served tall with a small splash of Sake) and Wutang Cran (Vodka, Vanilla liqueur, Cranberry, Pineapple & Lime).

Believe it or not, there’s more to this sophisticated bar than just drinks with weekly specials and events. Every Wednesday, she teams with neighbouring chicken specialists Lucky Egg to bring you Hip Hop, Beer & Fried Chicken. Thursday is live music night, which sees local bands like Good BoyDenpasar and The Young Art brought to the centre of attention.

Setting her aside from other Valley bars is their pay-a-drink-forward board which is simply genius. Weather your aim is to lure your stay-at-home friend from their bed, or to simply be a top bloke, the idea is that you can pay a drink for a mate and (should you know their name) pop it up on the drinks board. When that friend comes in, they can claim that drink, enjoy and hopefully pay it forward.

With chilled vibes and a cosy atmosphere, Barbara is certainly becoming a favourite with Valley locals. Barbara – she will take care of you.
