Birthed and raised as an Australian girl with an Indian background, I was that one odd kid in primary school who smelt the lockers up with exotic lunches and ethnic spices. I grew up with the best of both flavours; eating chili and then downing a Milo after, or having a vegemite sandwich with a side of chutney. Now taking the connection of cultures to a whole new level, the people of Brisbane will soon be able to experience the same taste and special exchange of India meeting Australia.

Coming to our curry rescue is Michelin-starred Chef Manjunath Mural, who will be combining his distinctive ‘Asian-Indian gastronomy’ with the expertise of Brisbane’s Nick Pinn from Malt Dining and the experience of the Gold Coast’s Sridhar Penumechu of Saffron Restaurant to create an exceptional destination dining and bar experience at Brisbane Quarter!

Whilst the name of the restaurant still remains a hushed and confidential secret, we can reveal that the 788m2 restaurant is planned to open mid this year! It will be located on the first floor of Brisbane Quarter’s retail podium overlooking the Brisbane River. The venue will offer fine dining with a distinctive menu that will take traditional Indian preparation methods and blend them with Australia flavours to result in uniquely juxtaposed culinary offerings.

Chef Mural is the first Indian Executive Chef to score a Michelin star for an Indian restaurant in Southeast Asia and was named World Gourmet Summit 2012’s Best Asian Chef in Singapore and has cooked as a guest chef for top restaurants in Asia and the Middle East.

Within the restaurant, Mr Pinn’s destination bar will offer a new take on street food, in addition to an expansive cocktail menu. The initial concepts for the bar are being kept under wraps but Mr Pinn has revealed the bar will focus on gin and exclusive American whisky blends.

What is sure to be a feast for the senses, Mural, Sridhar and Pinn’s innovative, premium and world-class dining destination is expected to push the boundaries of creativity and hospitality. And as much as I love my family’s cooking, I think I’m gonna have to trade my seat at my grandparents table for a booking at Mural’s. Sorry, nan.
