Following its ‘grand opening’ last week, Hyde Away Cafe has been making waves in as the latest ‘must see’ brunch destination in Brisbane. As part of the celebrations, guests were treated to an afternoon of live music, free drinks (including craft beer, kombucha, coffee and bellinis), as well as a constant rotation of cheese boards. Visitors were also able to sample pint-sized versions of meals from the all-day menu, including mini acai bowls, French toast and crispy corn croquettes.
Hyde Away’s all day menu takes your typical brunch fare and transforms it - with flavour and texture combinations - to create something magnificent. Notable examples of this textural experimentation include the Smashed Avo (toasted sourdough, topped with avocado and textured with crispy walnut granola and peperonate-style tomatoes) and the Jerk Chicken Taco (jerk spiced chicken with kiwi salsa verde on a soft tortilla). While it may seem unusual to put kiwi fruit in a taco, fruit salsas accentuate spicy flavours to produce a bold and zesty combination of flavour elements.
Highlights of the Hyde Away menu also include the French Toast (decadent slices of toasted brioche, topped with cream, zesty lemon curd and fresh fruit) and the Sweet Potato Fritters (topped with dukkah and capsicum puree): both of which provide irresistible flavour combinations that are too good to share.
Readers should note that Hyde Away Cafe is not a place to scoff down some toast and quickly drink a flat white before the traffic gets too hectic. Indeed, the name of the cafe encapsulates its purpose: a ‘hide away’ from reality, where deadlines and to-do lists don’t exist. Take a seat outside, with an iced latte in one hand and a sweet potato fritter in the other, and allow yourself to indulge in culinary delights from Brisbane’s newest cafe destination.
