Feng shui is a Chinese pseudoscience that uses energy forces to harmonise individuals with their surrounding environment. You might not be into it, and we get that, but if you are curious about creating a peaceful habitat in your home, we thought we’d do a little research into the mystical workings of feng shui.

Although feng shui might seem a little far out, the basic principles and practices of it are actually pretty logical. Without getting too deep down the pseudoscience rabbit hole (which has been known to happen to us in the past), it’s essentially about optimising the spaces in your home so that you are able to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. And this is something we think is fundamental in this big, bad and crazy world.

Don’t be a hoarder! If your house is full of things you don’t need or love, overrun with clutter and piles of clothes you'll never wear, how are you meant to clear your mind. It’s time to adopt a more minimalist approach and get rid of everything that no longer adds value to your home or design aesthetic.

Let the outside in

Natural air and light are essential for good feng shui energy (Chi) in your home. Leave your curtains and windows open as much as possible, it won’t be long before you feel the positive vibes flourish from the outside in. It’s also always a good idea to get yourself some house plants. They’re great for purifying the air and making you feel a little more connected with nature.

Position your bed

The positioning of your bed has a massive impact on how peacefully you sleep. It makes a lot of sense when you think about. Back in the day, when humans slept amidst the wild and were exposed to all kinds of dangerous things, they had to be careful about where they slept in order to ensure nothing was going to eat them in the middle of the night. We may have come a long way since those primitive times, but these safety instincts are still embedded in our psyches. So make sure your bed head is against a solid wall and you’re able to see your whole room from your bed for a sense of support and security.

With these simple feng shui practices, you should be able to make your home into the haven you need. Become one with your space and get ZEN.
