If you’re like us and love a good ‘Netflix n Chill’ date, then considering this stepped up a notch. ON a mission to make winter better, American Express Openair Cinemas are coming back to Brisbane at the iconic Brisbane City Botanic Gardens with an exciting festival program of food and films.

From July 19 – August 18, you’ll be able to catch a range of movies throughout the weeks including cult classic favourites like Clueless, Love Actually and Wizard of Oz as well as new release blockbusters like Rocketman, Aladdin, Spider-Man: Far From Home, John Wick 2 and Yesterday. There’s also something for your inner-kid including The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Toy Story 4. You can check out the full program here.

While there will be a mouth-watering daily menu of woodfired pizzas (including Nutella!), antipasto platters and salads from Pizza Queensland Bros, we would recommend packing a picnic basket and some hot chocolate for when the sun goes down. You’ll just need to leave the alcohol at home and purchase from the bar instead. Make sure to pack your blankets, picnic rug and chairs for the event, or just hire an air-lounger or bean-bag for ultimate comfort.

We should also mention that Wine Wednesdays are officially a thing meaning you’ll be able to sample a range of Gieson Wines (up to 8 different kinds!) to pair with your rom-com + special Happy Hour pricing if you’re looking to upgrade to a bottle. You’ll even have the chance to adopt a pooch during the movie every Friday with all proceeds going to RSPCA Queensland. And yes, your own furry friend is welcomed anytime with all screenings pet-friendly!

Tickets start at $14 and are on-sale now via: openaircinemas.com.au.

About the author

Harbouring an unhealthy addiction of watching too many dog videos, Danica is a lover of the great outdoors. While her greatest skill may be the ability to rap ‘Fergalicious’ perfectly, her inability to remember her left and rights has proven to be her greatest downfall in life. When she’s not on the beach or hiking up another mountain, you can expect to find her trying to satisfy her Tim-Tam addiction with surprise, suprise… another packet of Tim-Tams. It seems like no-one told her they aren’t a suitable daily breakfast.
